Seafood Buffet @ Mosaic, Mandarin Oriental KL

The weekend is almost here - have you got anything planned? Last week, we had the pleasure of sampling Mandarin Oriental KL's new seafood buffet dinner, featuring some of the finest and freshest seafood. This extensive buffet dinner is available every Friday and Saturday (6.00pm to 10.30pm) at Mosaic, and is priced at RM168++ per person

We feasted on a huge range of seafood on ice , including citrus and beetroot cured salmon,  poached prawns, king crab legs, scallops, flower crabs, lobster tails and fresh oysters. Chef Andreas Block, the Chef de Cuisine of Mosaic explains to us that the scallops and flowers crabs are sourced locally, whereas lobster tails are from Canada and there are a few different types of oysters such as Fin de Clair, Tsarskaya, and Irish.

When asked what is the highlight of this seafood buffet, Chef Andreas commented "the Japanese station".  For me personally, this was definitely the best station and I spent most of my evening here, devouring the fresh sashimi. A whole fresh tuna freshly flown in earlier that morning sits majestically at the counter, we were told that this particular one that evening weighs 40kg. Talk about fresh. I highly recommend the salmon sashimi too, oishi おいしい! Other than sashimi, you will also be able to find California rolls, spicy tuna rolls. nigiri and rolls. There is also tempura, placed at a different section.

Constantly replenished :)

There is also a wide variety of appetizers from around the world, such as a Malay-style Kerabu Mango seafood salad, Yam Woon Sen Pa Muk (Thai glass noodle salad with squid), Rojak sotong kangkung, crab meat salad, tuna nicoise salad, and Vietnamese prawn rolls.

I believe most seafood aficionados will look for crab at a buffet, right? Over here at Mosaic, you can find them cooked in several cooking styles, such as Malaysian grilled spicy crab, nandu varuval (crab with red chili paste), wok fried mud crabs with black pepper and honey, and Singapore chilli crab.

Help yourself to the whole fish as well as seafood pizzas situated at the live grill station, as well as barbequed seafood goodness such as Cajun Marinated king prawns, salmon skewers, grilled king crab legs, grilled black pepper cod and grilled seabass with herbs. We also enjoyed the Hunan style steamed deep sea barramundi with fresh chilli at the the Chinese station.

And for desserts, there are Asian kuihs, hot desserts, candy bar, pastries, cake, cheese and chocolate fountains. I highly recommend the mango cheese cake as well as the cassis macaron.
